CD REVIEW:
By: Ferdinand Maylin- www.jazznow.com

The Dukes edge slightly away from Dixieland for most of this CD to fully indulge the swing era of the great Bob Cats. The opening numbers have a much fuller - almost 'big band' sound than usual. There is a feeling of being tied more tightly to the 'script' - the Bob Cats always played from arranged, orchestrated Jazz.

Each member of the band is given a chance to shine and they don't need to be asked twice. There is just too much good stuff to mention. Honky Tonk Train Blues had some great Boogie piano from Tom McDermott. The swing of Wang Wang Blues and Stumblin', the rousing March of the Bob Cats and South Rampart Street Parade; great numbers all served up with spirit and vigour. The clarinet of guest player Jack Maheu in My Inspiration is a liquid delight. The spiritual Nobody Knows in four part harmony is played almost - well - spiritually.
Who's Sorry Now hits Dixie again encouraging a powerful desire not to keep still; I found myself jiving with my wife so energetically the CD jumped onto another track.

This is well focused playing that swings impeccably - music to stir the emotions.
